1st week in San Fran overview

Finally I get to post again! :) sorry about the lateness of this everyone! The internet here is not exactly reliable. I am going to try to start journaling so that I am remembering the things I am learning here otherwise I will forget and they won't really be learned ;)

Well last week felt really long, I know from here on out it will go really fast though so I am going to try to treasure it! I have already learned a lot in my classroom here. It has been a tough adjustment but God is ALWAYS good. I am really enjoying getting to know these kids, and seeing the diversity in the school.

One of the thoughts that is lingering in my mind as I attend these classes is the balance of what the students learn in the classroom academically as well as what they learn socially, emotionally, and practically for life and learn about themselves. I've just been thinking about all the things that students learn on top of what I will be explicitly teaching them, and that those things are important too. I don't really have any profound thoughts on this yet but maybe they will occur to me as I go through this experience, and any comments are welcome! :) post on my fb!

I also want to learn about classroom management while I am here. I know that that is something I haven't had much practice with and so I would love to be able to observe and see strategies that work for various teachers.

We did a lot of shopping this weekend, I enjoyed seeing the city and walking! :) God shows His beauty in so many different ways! I am still trying to figure out my way around this city! I am praying that I will continue to seek the Lord and develop relationships with these kids, I want to show them the love that God has shown me through His Son!

In San Fran!! 1st day in Everett Middle School

San Francisco is so beautiful right now and the weather is completely wonderful! I am LOVING the sun! The greatest thing about all of the people we have come in contact with at the orientation and in the schools is that they are passionate about supporting the students and their success. It is a blessing to see so many people excited to have us help them.

Everett Middle School is beautiful! I think that the beauty of the school is something that helps draw kids to it. Yesterday we just took a tour of the school after attending orientation and heard about the Mission Beacon which is an after school program for students. They are eager to have us volunteer to help in that if we can, so after this week I will probably choose one day a week to go there. It seems like a great program, partial learning academic stuff and partial active sports stuff.

The students did not really warm up to me very well today, it being the first day. So I am hoping tomorrow and in the coming days they will get used to me and I will be able to connect with them better. I am really looking forward to being more a part of this classroom and getting to know the school better. There is this incredible courtyard in the middle of the school with a garden; so today we sat there for lunch in the sun! :)

Praying that I can be a light and grow closer to God in this experience. Praise God for this opportunity! It felt a bit rough today so praying that I can go into tomorrow refreshed and with a joyful attitude that only comes from God.

Romans 8

These are some verses I am thinking and praying over in preparation for the trip. Trying to have a heart that glorifies God and remembering that it isn't about me! Reminding myself to cling to the laws of the Lord and not the laws of men.
Romans 8:1-2 "There is therefor now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.:

I would have to say that Romans 8:28 defines me and reminds me that God is totally in control and loves me :)
Romans 8:28 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose."
Thanks everyone for your prayers and for reading! :) To God be the glory!

Preparing for the Trip!

Just a few days until we all arrive in San Francisco! :) Very excited and nervous to go! I'm hoping that this will be a good experience for me to learn more how I can teach better, and a good experience to see other places. Praying that travels will go safe and that God will be glorified through all the preparation and arriving! :)
